A UK search engine specialising in helping users track down classified advertisements for cars, job vacancies and property has purchased the UK arm of a rival classified advertisement search engine, Oodle.
Following Adzuna’s acquisition of Oodle UK, visitors to the latter site who are looking for job, property and car advertisements will be navigated on towards the Adzuna site. Those looking for other categories of advertisement, meanwhile, will be signposted towards another classified search site, Mobiya. Oodle will retain control of its US division.
Industry commentators say that Adzuna – which has been operating since 2011, and currently attracts in excess of one million visitors each month – is likely to benefit substantially from the additional Oodle UK traffic.
The move is also expected to add to Adzuna’s growing UK profile – particularly coming so soon after the government’s decision last November to use Adzuna’s property and jobs data to help inform its real-time UK economic intelligence app, Number 10 Dashboard.
Commenting on the move, Doug Monro, an Adzuna co-founder, said:
“Adzuna is taking the classifieds market to the next level by creating unique social tools and opening up data, and is the natural home for users of Oodle in the UK. This acquisition will accelerate our growth towards becoming the UK’s biggest classifieds search engine.”
Adzuna’s strength has also been evident in the site’s financial performance, with revenue levels increasing by 100 per cent for each quarter of 2012.
The site is now also reported to be planning to expand internationally in 2013.
