Market leading social media site, Facebook, is to broaden its provision of cash gaming facilities for UK members, following a recent deal with gaming organisation 888 Holdings.
Under the deal, Facebook is expected to offer a range of apps providing opportunities for participating in casino games such as blackjack and roulette, slot machine games and cash bingo games.
Allowable stakes for the games – which are payable by debit or credit card – are reported to be likely as high as £500 – with maximum potential winnings cited as being in five-figure amounts.
Facebook is reported to have negotiated a 30% commission on all gambling payments made through the scheme.
The move follows the introduction on Facebook last August of a cash bingo game called ‘Bingo Friendzy’, which involved the downloading of an app produced in association with another gaming company, Gamesys.
The company 888 – which has already had dealings with Facebook via a non-cash game offering on the site called Bingo Island – commented on the deal via its chief executive officer, Itai Frieberger:
“Our Facebook freemium offerings have found a significant audience, and we are very excited by the opportunity that real money gaming on Facebook provides. We are working closely with Facebook on this launch, ensuring we introduce the best of both worlds of real money and social gaming.”
Facebook, meanwhile, says it has instituted strict safeguards to ensure that anyone under 18 is unable to participate in any cash games on the site – including cross-referencing credit card details with the user’s Facebook profile.
