YouTube Insights gets Hot Spots
YouTube has announced that it has extended its Insights application to allow content publishers to see what parts of their videos are being watched.
The new feature called Hot Spots will allow video uploaders to see exactly what parts of their video are being watched, what’s being skipped and what’s being replayed. Hot Spots runs in a tab and plays alongside your video in YouTube, with a graph representing views/replays/dropouts in real-time. When a part of your video is ‘Hot’ it is being viewed or replayed a lot, however when it is ‘Cold’ users have stopped watching or have skipped to another part of the video.
So why is this information useful to content publishers? Now we can see where users are dropping out we can learn more about how to improve our videos, what bores people, what keeps people watching and what makes people turn off.
