A strange development in the world of pay per click advertising… I’m not sure how much branding can be put across by 16×16 pixels, but Yahoo seem quite chuffed with this new feature.
You can now add in your website’s favicon, as seen is this mock up from Expedia:
And for those that don’t know what a favicon is, it’s a small icon (either 16×16 or 32×32 pixels large) which is displayed in the browser’s Address bar and next to the page’s name in a list of bookmarks.
Google added some features like this in their PPC adverts, for example the business address for geographically targeted adverts (very useful for local services) and Google Checkout logo for eligible e-commerce sites (very useful for generating further revenue for Google).
I’m wondering how long it will take for full graphics to appear… and then disappear once everyone gets banner blindness… or maybe it will work… who knows.
