Project Description

Travelling Man is a retailer of comics, graphic novels, board games and various curios around the cult TV, cinema and comic book theme. It was founded in Leeds in 1991 and now has four stores with the addition of Manchester, York and Newcastle to its empire. It has a loyal customer base and was among the first wave of SMEs to have a website in the late 1990s.

Challenge

Travelling Man’s website was nicely designed for its day, but it was static, difficult to modify and non-responsive. Most importantly, the eCommerce site had no easy editing ability and it had little functionality, and the blog was hosted on an independent wordpress.com site, which limited hosting control and lacked the professionalism the company wanted. They wanted to address these issues whilst also increasing their marketing share, so saw PushON as the perfect partners.

Solution

Travelling Man’s entire website was re-built from the ground up using the open source Magento Community Edition. This facilitated a traditional eCommerce appearance with shopping cart and order fulfilment functionality built in. We integrated Cybertill Point of Sale (POS) with Magento, which enabled Travelling Man to manage inventory, orders and customer information through their POS, and ultimately gain a single view of the customers’ activity across both channels.

The rebuild allowed us to integrate a WordPress blog into the main Travelling Man website, which not only looks more professional, but delivers the benefits of content marketing activities and more chances for customers staying on the site to make purchases. Once the site was launched, we initiated a full digital marketing campaign, which is ongoing.

Results

Travelling Man was delighted with the new site, and straight away benefited from ease of use in the content management system, faster load times and a greatly improved user experience. The ability to simply update the site with new products and descriptions and then let the system deal with the rest of the order was a huge improvement on the old manual system.
