Google introduces PPC credit card to UK
Search giant Google has brought a credit card to the UK created especially to cover business payments for its AdWords pay per click (PPC) scheme.
The launch follows the card’s initial successful trial in the US.
AdWords is a long-running and popular facility whereby advertisers submit bids for the right to use certain words as keywords – which, when selected by the search engine’s users, bring the advertiser’s site up on Google’s results pages.
If the user then clicks on the advertiser’s link, the latter makes a payment to Google.
The AdWords Business Credit service – as the card payments scheme has been officially named – is designed to help maintain continuity of payments among smaller AdWords advertisers.
According to Brent Callinicos, Vice President and Treasurer of Google, 74 per cent of businesses participating in the trial (and subsequently surveyed in the US by the search engine) said that the credit card had become their primary means of paying for charges related to their AdWords campaigns.
The UK version of the AdWords credit card has been produced in association with Barclaycard. The card will have a typical variable annual percentage rate (APR) of 11.9 per cent.
Callinicos said in a written statement:
“Every day, AdWords enables more than one million businesses, the majority of which are SMBs (small and medium-sized businesses) to connect with their customers online. We hope AdWords Business Credit will give SMBs more flexibility – some ‘extra credit’ – so they’re able to focus on growing their businesses even further.”
The credit card is also now expected to be rolled out to a wider user base in the US.
