New version of WordPress released

The popular global open source blogging and content management platform, WordPress, is now available for use in its latest updated incarnation – version 3.5 – otherwise known as ‘Elvin’ (in tribute to legendary jazz drummer, Elvin Jones).

Among the more significant changes the new version brings is a greatly simplified process for building galleries. These can now be organised using a drag and drop function – while a built-in caption amendment facility and more manageable controls are also said by many commentators to help make the process more user friendly.

Version 3.5 also includes a new look dashboard, while the administration control panel has been further enhanced to appear more attractive on high quality Retina visual display screens.

Matt Mullenweg, founder and chief of the company behind WordPress, Automattic, has also commented on the greater suitability the platform’s new clearer standard theme, Twenty Twelve, has for content generated via mobile devices. He likewise commented on its suitability as a perfect foundation for creating a central, shared content management system (CMS) website.

In addition, Twenty Twelve can easily be tailored according to individual preference – with a choice of different colours and background motifs.

Version 3.5 of WordPress also contains a number of other smaller refinements which Automattic says will be of particular benefit to developers. These include increased memory capacity, header flexibility and a simplified means of expressing time details.

Recognition of the growing influence of micro blogging site, Tumblr, also appears to have been acknowledged in the new version of WordPress, with the introduction of a new facility for importing posts from the Tumblr site.
