After an incredible twelve months PushON is delighted to announce its continuing success with the account win for Organic Surge. Organic Surge, one of the UK’s most exciting natural beauty companies has bought PushON on board to help with its online marketing activities and boost its growing reputation within the sector.

PushON will work alongside Pure PR to deliver a highly engaging search marketing campaign that not only helps increase brand awareness but also delivers more sales. At PushON we are delighted to have won such an account as this is a highly engaged sector and presents an abundance of opportunities.

Organic Surge has also been consistently strong at developing its product range and getting placements in many leading high street retailers. This and a well built website means that PushON have been provided with a solid foundation from which to base a marketing campaign upon. The company also launched a range of online marketing initiatives in the past, which PushON hopes to develop further in the future.

PushON is well experienced in this sector and has a number of strategies, which it will employ to boost the company’s online presence. Blogging and user content for example will form a key part of the strategy. We can’t give too much away, but there will be a couple of key developments over the next few months to look out for.

Sat in a cinema, at a casino was a first for me. In fact, sitting in a casino is a first for me… and not to mention, sitting in a cinema, in a casino, watching an eye tracking presentation is a first for me.

So the guy stands there and put a video on with an orange dot flying around all over the screen. He wasn’t talking much and the cinema was fairly empty… a fairly dull situation really. But alas, what I am looking at is the eyes movements around a website. What amazes me is how fast we look from item to item… I was always under the impression that my eyes waded from item to item, rather than flying around at a Mach level that even astronauts would struggle to achieve. The other thing that fascinated me is how little we actually read.

When you’re browsing the website, more re to the point, when I’m browsing a website, I tend to scan read everything while saying “yeah, i read that”… but it would seem I am not alone! We scan over web content at such a great rate, milliseconds become very important. You don’t want to waste any of the visitors time, and make sure you get all your USPs to the users eye as quickly and as clearly as possible.

A good example, and probably one of the better things I took from the presentation was that if one has a strong, bold navigation system, and then a call to action underneath the navigation, chances are the users will not see your call to action, despite it being right in front of them. It’s almost like we have an inability to take in lots of key items all at once and we automatically filter out thing we consider to be “junk”. As Roy said on the IT crowd once, we have automatic filters!

To summarise, I already knew that the hierachy of elements on the page will greatly influence your CTR and what your visitors will target, however it was great to actually see it with your own eyes. I definitely recommend taking a look at Eye Tracking sometime, however I do not consider it to be a defintive answer to what users are drawn to on your site as test/research situations can vary from reality.

We are pleased to announce that we have secured the contract for optimising the Servico Ind Limited website. Servico specialise in leather repair and offer upholstery repair and leather furniture repair services to business and commercial clients. The company is also in the process of launching a brand new website in which we are working with their development company to create a well optimised site.

The approach for the project is to create a bespoke PPC campaign and begin optimising the site over time. The site currently has a very limited link portfolio and it will therefore take some time to rank well. The PPC campaign will drive timely sales while we build a strong link portfolio and develop the sites content.

For this campaign we also aim to leverage numerous social media sites including YouTube and Flickr. We have identified some early opportunities for using video and images. The company also works on a range of exciting projects which we aim to share in exciting ways.

At PushON we are really excited about the project and are looking to achieve the maximum amount of ROI for our new client.

The first sign that I’ve spent too long in the world of online marketing is that I’m sitting here agonising over which of the following openers will generate the highest conversion: “Hi”, “Hello” or “Greetings”.

“Hi” fits well in a blog which I’ve classified as “informal informative”, but may be a turn-off for the more serious-minded client. “Greetings”, on the other hand, has limited appeal outside of science-fiction enthusiasts. Ideally, I would test several variations on a range of segments and even consider targeting each of you with a personalised message.

But we’re a small agency, and where our larger cousins might devote a team of creatives, copy-writers and analysts to such important questions, I’ll simply compromise with “Hello”.

I’m Dan. I’ve arrived in Manchester from Australia, where for the past few years I’ve been marketing in-house at a large customer insights agency with the likes of Jeff Richardson, James Duthie and Lucio Ribeiro (who will now dutifully link back to the PushON blog, thereby ensuring we are Number One on the Google within the week).

I think of my approach as customer relationship marketing with a healthy dose of analysis. The analyst in me tracks customers through acquisition, conversion and retention, hunting at each stage for opportunities to increase the flow. Meanwhile, my ‘experience architect’ side enjoys tweaking sites to improve usability and simplicity.

I’m delighted to have joined PushON in my first UK marketing role, and am particularly excited to develop my technical skills around web development and SEO. Kat, Simon and Co. have obliged by making me feel very welcome, while kindly throwing me in at the deep end.

I’ve already met some of you, and look forward to widening my small circle over coming weeks and months. If you just can’t wait, beat the rush on Twitter @danlukas.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we will be joining forces with exhibition stand designers Ignition. Ignition, who are based in Manchester have produced some truly exceptional work and we are excited by the opportunity of promoting their masterpieces.

In my time I have come across numerous companies who have designed and sold exhibition stands but none of them come close to the quality offered by Ignition. I was blown away when they showed me some of their previous work. Who thought it would be possible to create such futuristic and stylish exhibition stands.

It was also exciting to see the enthusiasm that they have for their work and how we can help push their work in the online domain. We often come across people who don’t truly understand the concept of online marketing but both Lewis (Managing Director of Ignition) and Greg (Freelance Web Developer) have a real grasp for it and seem genuinely excited by the opportunities.

Although the company focuses mainly on exhibition stands it also produces outstanding creative and helps companies with their branding efforts. They have recently done some work for Manchester based florist Wild & Co.

Ignition is also currently in the process of a website redesign in which we are providing advice on. The aim of the new site is to deliver more targeted content which will help improve conversions. As part of our online marketing campaign we will be:

Optimising the new site
Acquiring Link Equity
ePR
Article Submissions

This should be an interesting project.

Anyhow, long story short: Lots of smoke, have a look. Fire Engines turn up and deal with it really quickly. I mean really really quickly. There were Fire Engines there almost before we noticed anything was wrong. That’s taxpayers money well spent I take some pictures. Nobody hurt. Blog it. Photos published in less than an hour. It’s interesting to see how quick you can publish something vaguely topical. Will no doubt twitter this. The pictures are taken from various vantage points around the fire. You can find more via our Flickr feed. If you are that way inclined of course.

[kml_flashembed movie="http://blog.pushon.co.uk/imgs/love.swf" height="90" width="160" align="right" /]Google dumped us recently, pulled out our heart, spat into the open wound and walked off into the sunset without so much as leaving us a Dear John.

We sat and sulked for the first couple of days blaming everything and everyone, life is so unfair, we didn’t deserve that, just who does this Google think, he/she/it is? We can do so much better anyway!

After our short period of sulking we finally admitted that Google had fallen out of love with us and set about trying to win back its’ heart.

We discussed, argued, researched, analysed and finally decided that there was potentially a number of factors that might have turned our soul mates affections sour, rather than any single given factor.

Here’s a list of factors we think may have caused Google to give us the cold shoulder:

Unreliable hosting

The change in method of displaying our RSS feed on our main site

Less frequent posting

Our RSS feed not function for a short period.

Here’s a list of things we did to win back the heart of big G:

Fixed the hosting issue

Changed the method we used to display our RSS feed on our main site

Made more regular posts

Fixed all issued with our RSS feed

Upgraded our WordPress install

Changed our permalink structure and used 301 redirects on all the old URLs

Updated our XML sitemap

It now appears that we’ve rekindled Googles love for us and we’re seeing a whole range of posts previously going unnoticed, whilst it was giving us the brush off, hitting top of the Google once again.

Search Result 1

There are two potential scenarios when a client comes to us to talk about Search Engine Marketing. The first and most frequent scenario is the client who has a website and isn’t getting enough or any traffic at all. The second and far less frequent is a client without a website but enough foresight to understand that just having a website isn’t enough. We love the second scenario. We’ve a blank canvas to start with and an opportunity to set the client on the road to success by getting things right from the off. Whilst it’s possible to take an existing website and increase traffic and search engine placement, by far the best route is to do things right in the beginning.
