Our Charity of the Year 2018 is 42nd Street. It’s a Manchester-based charity, which seeks to support young people (aged between 11 and 25) with their emotional state and mental health issues. Their key objectives are:
- Counselling & Therapy – so young people have someone to talk to and feel comfortable
- Have a Voice – to build confidence in young people and help them to have a voice
- Open Opportunities – to support young people in accessing opportunities to learn, develop new skills, be creative and have fun
- Management & Recovery – to ensure young people know they will be able to recover and manage their mental health and wellbeing, and will achieve their full potential
About 42nd Street
42nd Street is an award-winning charity with over 36 years of experience supporting some of Manchester’s most vulnerable young people in overcoming and managing mental health and wellbeing issues. The staff at 42nd Street go above and beyond to give their extra support with professionals providing counselling and therapy, one-to-one psycho-social support, drop-ins and projects to build confidence in young people confronting their mental wellbeing instead of it taking over a person’s life, helping them manage it and cope on a day-to-day basis. They also have a great relationship and involvement with schools across Greater Manchester and work on a number of inclusion projects such as the Disabled Young People’s Project and Inside Out.
“Demand for our support is at an all-time high; it is so important that all young people get the right support at the right time and as early as possible to prevent things from escalating and to ensure young people feel listened to and empowered” Chief Executive, Simone Spray.
Why we choose 42nd Street
With PushON being a Manchester-based agency, we value the time and effort people put into local charities in supporting the people. Each year we nominate a Charity of the Year so that we can help raise money and awareness for it. It’s a great way to get the staff to invest their time into a local charitable cause. PushON has a drive and passion to give back and that is why we have our team nominate their favourite charity.
