Magento 1.X and Magento 2.X Audits
Frequently we are asked to audit existing Magento websites, on both Magento 1 and Magento 2. The reasons are numerous, but the process and focus remain the same; to maximise the performance and capability of your Magento eCommerce website. Our Magento Audits are split into three distinct offerings; Magento Build Audit, Magento Performance Audit and Magento Frontend Audit. This modular approach allows us to tailor the Magento Audit to your business and particular requirements.
Magento Build Audit
The most common Magento audit we’re asked to run is the Magento Build Audit; this fundamentally focusses on ensuring the stability, integrity and capability of your Magento website or websites. Typically, the process involves one of our Magento Certified Developers taking a copy of your website and running through a checklist to ensure the Magento website meets best practice and has been implemented correctly. For all audits we use a RAG (red, amber, green) system to indicate whether issues are high, medium or low priority, and provide estimates alongside each action for transparency.
What does the Build Audit Cover?
The Magento Build Audit covers the following areas of your Magento website:
- Modifications to core code
- Extension review (bespoke & third-party)
- Integration review
- Server configuration
- Magento configuration
How long does a Magento Audit take?
The number of days depends on the number of constituent parts comprising the Magento Audit. In addition the following questions must be answered:
- What version of Magento are you on?
- How many websites are you running?
- How many integrations are involved?
- How many extensions are installed?
Magento Performance Audit
Whilst the Magento Build Audit covers the core platform, many clients and prospective clients have experienced issues with their Magento website performance. The Magento Performance Audit concentrates on this area, investigating; server configuration in addition to profiling the Magento application. Again, a Magento Certified Developer would conduct the audit, and typically resulting actions will be delivered to you face-to-face by the developer, alongside your Project Manager and Account Manager.
Magento Frontend Audit
The Magento Frontend Audit is typically run on websites which are either in development, or those that are suffering from a multitude of quality issues within the frontend of the website. Our QA (Quality Assurance) team conduct an exploratory test of the website across a range of devices and browsers, culminating in a detailed report listing browser/device-specific issues as well as those that exist across all browsers and devices.
Objectives of the Magento Frontend Audit
The Magento Frontend Audit primary objectives are:
- Identify functional issues
- Highlight non-functional issues
- Discover browser and device specific issues
- Establish user-experience issues
Beyond the Audit
Once the Magento Audit has been completed it will be presented to you, alongside a quotation for resolving any issues highlighted (using the RAG system described above). High (red) priority issues must be resolved immediately as a matter or urgency. Medium (amber) and Low (green) priority issues should be prioritised as part of business as usual support. Complete Recommendations of Existing Magento Audit
We couldn’t guarantee that the audit you have had completed has been thorough enough to catch all potential issues.
Work to carry out fixes can be completed as part of a retained Magento support contract with us, or charged as a time and materials one-off project to implement fixes.
Our preference is always to carry out our own audit process. It’s a process we’ve been following for years and we are confident it will highlight any potential issues that need dealing with.
Magento eCommerce Store Audit
Whilst the various flavours of Magento audits we offer aim to highlight technical issues with the build quality, technical performance, visual issues across browser and device types, as well as security holes that might need plugging, there are a plethora of other factors to consider.
