Herdy case study
Herdy is a homeware and gifts retailer based in the picturesque Lake District with loyal customers located around the world. A bricks and mortar retailer with four physical stores, Herdy operate in both the D2C and B2B market, supplying independent retail shops in addition to their own.
The character of Herdy is based on the Herdwick sheep, native to the Lake District, and can be found on various high-quality homeware and gift products.
“Herdy is passionate about design, quality and community, and that’s reflected in our products and our retail store shopping experience. In creating our primary online channel, it was essential that we partnered with a digital agency that understood and reflected our brand values, and who demonstrated the technical abilities to translate our vision into a unique e-commerce solution with the flexibility to grow with our expanding needs.
PushON’s immersive approach to understanding our requirements enabled us to take a collaborative approach at every stage of the planning, design and build processes. Appointing project managers on both client and agency sides provided a dedicated resource for stakeholders and decision makers to funnel their individual needs and objectives, which contributed significantly to the scope and success of the project.
This equitable approach to planning and development has delivered an ambitious and bespoke e-commerce solution which incorporates the fun, creativity, and community engagement that is uniquely associated with the Herdy brand.
– Terry Watton, eCommerce Manager
Herdy required an agency that could deliver both a technically sound eCommerce website and match their own creative prowess. Previous iterations of the eCommerce business had not met expectations, so it was important to work with a Magento Solution Partner. As a design-led business themselves, a key consideration was finding a partner that could deliver to the creative brief and truly reflect the Herdy brand.
The brief was straightforward; Herdy required a new Magento 2 website to attract customers in the local UK market and internationally, where the brand has a strong presence. The website should reflect the identity of Herdy, whilst being easy to manage and maintain. In addition to this the website needed to be integrated with internal systems including Sage 50.
As with all projects at PushON, a business immersion workshop was initially delivered to further understand the Herdy brand, values & products, and to develop a functional specification for the project.
The solution was to leverage the power and flexibility of Magento Open Source, further enhanced by a brand-focussed and user-centric design created by PushON’s UX design team, in collaboration with Herdy. Key elements of the solution included:
- Magento Open Source
- Full UX design processes
- Custom forms
- Visual merchandising
- Product attachments
- Out of stock notifications
- Integrated with MailChimp
- Integrated with Sage 50
